From Glass to Steel

This is my first blog and here I will be writing about how I used a mathmatical formula in my daily life. Silly but good as first blog.

I used to have peeling lips throughout the year and my body temperature was often above normal. So I had to stay hydrated which meant keeping track of my water intake. That’s why I started to use bottle even at home - no glass, open the cap and drink. I had a big fat glass bottle with 1liter capacity, which I finished at least twice a day. Everything was going well until one day it broke!

a big fat bottle

I dont have the exact pic of the bottle but it looked like this with a blue flip-top cap.

After that bottle broke, I started using a steel one. But the problem with that was i didnt know its volume, it wasnt written on the bottom either. So, I had to find a way to keep track of the water I was drinking. I thought maybe I can do that by finding its volume. Its surface was circular. So surface area would be \( pir^2 \). and for volume i multiplied area by its height. Thus Volume = \( pir^2h \). I took a scale and measured its height and diameter. Height = 22cm and Diamter = 5cm. So,

\begin{align*} \text{Volume} &= \pi \times \left(\frac{5}{2}\right)^2 \times 22 \\ &= \pi \times 6.25 \times 22 \\ &= 431.96\, \text{cm}^3 = 431.96\, \text{ml} \end{align*}

Now, to drink above 2L. I had to drink it like 5 times day. and Here is the pic of the steel one.
